It is important to manage diabetes because of the serious problems that it can lead to such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, eye problems, and nerve damage. It should also be noted that those with type 2 diabetes may be at greater risk of developing cancer or Alzheimer’s disease.

Osteoporosis is a disease common among older adults that weakens the bone to the point where bone breaks such as hip bones, backbones, and the wrist become more common. While osteoporosis can occur at any age, it is most common among older people.


When someone has osteoporosis, the spaces in the middle of the bone become larger while the outer shell of the bones becomes thinner. Both of these things make the bones weaker.

With that said, it can affect seniors more as obesity can affect balance and cause falls. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than one-third of older adults 65 and older were obese in 2007 to 2010. The CDC expects this number to increase as the older population increases.

It can cause severe problems that affect how we feel, think, and handle day-to-day activities. Eventually, the problem can cloud the lens of the eye and reduce the amount of light that gets through.
